INTERNATIONAL SHORT-FILM COMPETITION Each year, FICA – Algarve International Film Festival organizes the oldest international "short-film competition" to take place in Portugal.
The festival accepts films in two categories: Animation and Fiction, produced no sooner than 2003 and with a maximum duration of 30 minutes. The submitted films must only be produced in 35 mm format. Exclusively for portuguese filmmakers, the festival will also accept films in DVD or Beta SP/PAL formats. The competition section of FICA 2008 distributes more than 20.000 Euros in awards.
FILMS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
Apart from the quality commercial and alternative films, FICA presents in every new season, and apart from holding the oldest international short-film competition to take place in Portugal, since 2004 the Algarve International Film Festival organises a new section especially for its senior viewers. From Weatherboard to Leeward and covering the entire Algarve region, in cooperation with the various municipalities which cherish and support this initiative, FICA chooses and offers these especial viewers a complex series of public viewings with high quality films, full of emotion, sensibility and tenderness. The best of film for our more experienced viewers, the senior citizens. SCHOOL GOES TO THE MOVIES
For more than 25 years, the Algarve International Film Festival has been organising the "School Goes To The Movies" initiative, with the purpose of promoting films to school children of the Algarve region. The films are chosen according to educational criteria and shown throughout the Algarve, in a decentralizing initiative that offers five days of films, joy and colour to over 30.000 children.
INTERNATIONAL RALLY PAPER
Concluding FICA's entertainment program for this year, the organization committee prepared an initiative full of emotion, colour and joy. We have prepared an International Rally Paper, an automobile event that will slowly cover the distance between the various marinas in the Algarve. Photography, nature sightseeing, questions about film and the Algarve region, these are some of the ingredients of this event, which promises to bring cheer to some of Algarve main roads and cities. People from all over the world, coming to be a part of FICA, will play, socialize and compete for valuable prizes. |
